Primary Subject Leader Forum: Humanities

This session provides opportunities for Humanities Coordinators to network, share good practice and receive the latest updates in the development of teaching and learning of History and Geography in the primary phase.  It is tailored to support the coordinators in their role to develop, enhance and monitor the effectiveness of teaching and learning in History and Geography across their school. Training covers effective teaching and learning tasks that can be used directly in the classroom, and includes resources. This training meeting is  suitable for those schools which follow IPC and those who create their own curriculum.

Course objectives

  • To support the coordinators in their quality assurance and monitoring of pupil progression in Humanities subjects.
  • To support coordinators in planning learning according to the National Curriculum.
  • To deliver training on pedagogy and assessment, which will improve the teaching and learning of History and Geography in primary schools.
  • To support the coordinators in promoting, delivering and monitoring of good practice in the teaching of History and Geography in their schools.
  • To provide opportunities to reflect upon own practice, best practice and ways to support and develop the practice of colleagues.

Meet with English Subject Leaders to keep up to date with current developments in the teaching and learning of primary English.

Primary Subject Leader Forum: MFL

The focus this year will be on ways to develop the teaching of Spanish to improve outcomes through expanding the delivery of Spanish in other curriculum areas (CLIL), enhancing joint primary-secondary transition and international links and establishing networks of leading teachers. This will be underpinned by the accreditation of the Hackney Primary Spanish Award (HPSA).

Primary Subject Leader Forum: PSHE

These sessions are designed to provide participants with the opportunity to receive up to date guidance on changes within the areas of PSHE and Citizenship, the enhanced responsibility for children’s wellbeing in the Ofsted framework and how to fulfil these through curriculum work. It will include opportunities to explore the DfE guidance on promoting British values in schools to ensure young people leave school prepared for life in modern Britain and the responsibilities included in the Prevent strategy.

Course objectives

  • To support coordinators in planning high quality learning opportunities for PSHE and Citizenship within and outside of the classroom.
  • To ensure schools understand the requirements of teaching British Values and the Prevent agenda and how this fits within the context of a whole school approach to values.
  • To reflect upon and share best practice.

Primary Subject Leader Forum: Religious Education

This training session provides opportunities for RE Coordinators to network, share good practice and receive the latest updates in the development of teaching and learning RE in the primary and Early Years phase. It is tailored to support the coordinators in their role to develop, enhance and monitor the effectiveness of teaching and learning in RE across their school. Additional speakers or visits will sometimes feature as part of this training. Training covers effective teaching and learning tasks that can be used directly in the classroom, and includes resources. Attendance to this training session is a prerequisite to receiving the updated schemes of work for RE, which fulfil the statutory requirement for RE in accordance to the Locally Agreed Syllabus, and include assessment.

  • To provide updated primary RE schemes of work.
  • To support coordinators in the planning and monitoring of learning.
  • To deliver training on pedagogy which will improve the teaching and learning of RE in primary schools.
